TRIGGER WARNINGS: suicide, outing

 A couple of days ago, a woman game developer attempted suicide on a live video stream following internet harassment related to an Indiegogo campaign for her game. While she lay in the hospital, Destructoid writer Allistair Pinsof, in the interest of clarifying her Indiegogo “scam,” outed her as a transgender woman on his Twitter account.

If you’re talking about Tyler and Blain, No I didn’t, I said they were perpetuating rape culture, which was the whole damn point of my post.
I also never claimed they *did* make the chloroform joke. I have no idea who made the original joke, and if I knew, they would be named there as well. I know that I already missed many of the people who made these sorts of comments, and I would like them to know that they’re not welcome in my community as long as they continue to make those comments, either.

If you’re talking about the statistics part at the end where I said it was likely that some quidditch players will be raped by other quidditch players, and you’re thinking of all your quidditch friends, THEN YES I AM AND I’M CALLING SOME OF MY FRIENDS RAPISTS TOO. Because the fact is… 6% of college-aged men have admitted to attempting rape. So… do you know 17 men college-aged and over? Yes? CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE STATISTICALLY VERY LIKELY TO KNOW AT LEAST ONE RAPIST. There are over 17 men on my *team* so STATISTICALLY THERE IS AT LEAST ONE RAPIST ON MY TEAM. And if there are at least 17 men in your program… THEN CONGRATULATIONS YOUR PROGRAM LIKELY HAS AT LEAST ONE, TOO.

I used that phrasing hoping it would make people who think these jokes are okay realize the weight of their words. That they make these jokes in large groups of people, many of whom are likely rapists, and they go FORCING WOMEN TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU. IT’S SO FUNNY HAHA. LOLOL. SO HILARIOUS, RIGHT! And I think we can all agree that NO. NO IT’S NOT FUCKING FUNNY. RAPE IS NOT A JOKE. NO IT’S NOT SOMETHING YOU DO FOR KICKS. STAHP.

So YEAH, I insinuated that your friends are the type of people who would rape someone (which btw is not what you originally accused me of). BECAUSE THEY ARE. Because men get the idea that it’s okay to force someone to have sex with you if they “deserve” it. From these jokes. From rape culture. Studies like this and this illustrate rape culture in a way I NEVER can.

i’m going to make the last thing  i say before i go to bed be this: I’m sorry you were sexually assaulted. That’s not something that should happen to anyone, let along a 10 year old. 1 in 6 is too large of a number, 1 in any is too large a number. I think statistics are valuable when talking about this sort of stuff… and so are personal stories. You are SO MUCH MORE than a statistic and you have a billion and two qualities a statistic can never reflect. A mere tumblr post can never, ever contain the stories, lives and values of every 1 in that 6, and I’m sorry about that. I’m sorry the world sucks and people rape others, and I’m going fight to make the world where no one thinks that’s okay, and no one trivializes experiences like yours and experiences like yours never even exist. And so as a means to that end, I’m going to continue to call out anything that makes rape seem even remotely okay.
